Although you may look forward to hot chocolate, sweaters, and the holidays during the winter, one thing you may not be excited about is what it will cost to heat your home. As your heating contractor, at Cool Comfort Heating & Air, we encourage you to keep in mind that making a few simple changes can drastically reduce your monthly heating bills.
- Turn Down Your Thermostat. Just turning down your thermostat one or two degrees during the winter can help you reduce your heating bill by as much as 5%. As your heating contractor, we recommend turning down your thermostat during the day while you’re away, and then turning it up before you get home that evening. If you don’t currently have a programmable thermostat to help you do this, we can install one in your home.
- Replace Your Furnace Filters. As a heating contractor, we see many people overlook this critical aspect of furnace maintenance. To keep your furnace running as efficiently as possible, make sure you follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for filter replacement. Remember that not only does replacing your filters increase your system’s efficiency, but it can also help you prevent the need for heating repair.
- Seal Leaks. Go through your home and look for any places where your electrical conduits, vents, or pipes go directly through a ceiling, wall, or floor. If you find a gap anywhere, seal the area with some caulk. Don’t forget to check underneath your kitchen sink and look for any pipes that are inside your home’s closets.
